$5 each way on Amtrak to & from Detroit until 9/4/17

Didn't notice this before but here ya go (and I thought it would be nice to bump this forum since it's been inactive since 2015).

But anyways, there's an Amtrak promotion for $5 train rides between Royal Oak and Detroit up until September 4th.  I guess it's a promotion for the new Q Line streetcar.

Details (and the link to get to the booking page) can be seen here.

Also works if you are going from Pontiac, Dearborn and Ann Arbor to Detroit.

When I saw a story on this it sounded like you could do $5 among any of those stops, so I thought RO to Ann Arbor would be fun. No dice. Start or finish has to be Detroit.

So I could do RO-Detroit-Ann Arbor, but then it would be $10  ;)

That's still a better deal than the usual Royal Oak to Ann Arbor fare of $17 each way.

$40 (or $68 at reg price) for a party of 2 roundtrip makes it way more than gas and parking, so I'm out. Nice to see them doing a promotion, though. They could probably team up with SMART and the zoo and have a fare+bus transfer to get families to ride the train to the zoo... What kid growing up in SE Michigan wouldn't be thrilled with a train ride?
