WEED gets axed in RO?
« on: November 08, 2018, 01:40:40 PM »

I see in upcoming CC 11/12 meeting; staff recommending to not allow selling in RO. How do you think the commission will land on this issue?
Why not "POT for PARKS" slogan. get that TAX revenue, people will bring it in anyway. what's the difference?

I forsee a packed public comment house  >:D

"We are recommending the city continue to prohibit such facilities in Royal Oak. At the very least,
we believe that should be the default position until and unless the city commission, after careful
consideration and deliberation, takes an affirmative action to allow marihuana facilities."

Fishy for sure.
Royal Oak fighting pot is kind of funny in a way.
Dispense maybe. A few would be okay,, like one or two,,, not 10 or 20.
I think folks forget public consumption is still a no-no.  What you do at home is none of my business.
I predict this is a red herring, in that city hall is pretending to fight it, flip later, so it can claim " LOOK! We DO listen to residents.

As for the promise of tax revenue. Sure , i remember when all the Lottery and Casino revenue would fix all the school  revenue needs too.

One thing for sure, all the web providers for city codes and ordinances are busy.  Every city, town, village etc has an added section for pot.
Who really benefits ? as usual, The Lawyers. Sigh.

Pot or Not seems to be the purview of citizens.  While the police chief may be totally against it because it is still a Federal crime Michigan did vote and this should be discussed at a Town Hall rather than in 3-minute bits.  Why not schedule one?

I need some verification on this pot thing.  Who makes up the rules?  The state or the county, or each city?  Or all three make up their own rules?  I heard that it will take a year to set this up?  The whole thing is not on my radar, except if restaurant sidewalk cafes allow it, or just walking down the street smoking will be allowed, it will limit certain customers.  Smoke is my lungs enemy.

Guess we will wait and see.  It is on Monday's CC agenda.

Will all the hair brain idiots who slept thru Civics class kindly raise your hand.  For once I do agree with what the commission did.  You cannot run out and open a business without licenses and rules.  Don't get the jockeys in a wad!  Stay home and continue smoking.

Royal Oak and other municipalities are wise to tread slowly and with caution regarding cannabis.
The proclamation of " lost tax revenue" is sort of empty at this time,
as nobody can provide data of how much of that tax money will be internally consumed by government legislation, licensing, monitoring etc.  Too say nothing of any local and non local law enforcement costs.

I would, but I am tooooo political, limit the stores to the downtown but 300 feet from a school or church and add a city tax.
